Seattle, WA – January 21, 2025

A dramatic series of events unfolded earlier today in downtown Seattle when a red Dodge Charger, fleeing from police, was involved in a standoff that resulted in the driver being shot.

The incident, which started at about noon, involved the attempt by police to pull over a vehicle near 5th Avenue. In lieu of pulling over, though, the driver gained speed, and a high-speed chase over city streets ensued. While being driven erratically, narrowly avoiding other vehicles, police commands to stop were ignored.

The chase ended in a cul-de-sac, where police had the car quickly surrounded. The driver exited the vehicle and "aggressively approached" the officers, according to testimony from several onlookers. At this point, police say the suspect made a threatening gesture, prompting officers to fire their weapons.

The driver, whose name and date of birth have not been released, was struck by gunfire and was transported to a local hospital for medical attention. His condition was not immediately known.

The Seattle Police Department has not announced a formal investigation into the incident, and no other details about what led to the shooting have been released. The authorities are still trying to gather information and are encouraging witnesses to come forward with any details that could help make sense of the events.

This is a developing story, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
