Seattle, WA - November 15, 2024

A high-speed police chase, with shots fired, occurred near the intersection of Main Street and Grand Avenue mere blocks from MNST headquarters when officers shot a suspect. The individual was driving a 2015 black Dodge Charger Widebody and is stated to be armed and resisting arrest before being shot.

It began at approximately 3:45 PM in the Capitol Hill neighborhood, where Seattle Police attempted to stop the car, which had been flagged in an ongoing investigation. The driver refused to pull over, and officers chased him for ten minutes through busy city streets and freeway sections. Witnesses said the vehicle weaved through traffic at high speeds and narrowly missed collisions.

The chase ended when police used a grappler device on the Charger. It forced the car to stop near Main Street and Grand Avenue. The suspect was out of the car and reportedly resisted arrest. During that fight, the suspect pulled a weapon. It is then that an officer drew their gun and fired on the suspect. Emergency medical services were called, and the suspect was transferred to Seattle Medical Hospital; their condition is unknown. No officers were injured in the incident. Police recovered the weapon at the scene of the crime and impounded the evidence.

The area of Main Street and Grand Avenue was roped off for hours, with traffic snarled in a frenzy as investigators processed the scene. The incident has added fuel to the growing debate about police response to incidents, high-speed pursuits, and the difficulties that officers find themselves dealing with in potentially dangerous confrontations.

Additional details will be provided as they become available from the public safety reports.
