A brief police pursuit down Highway 55 ended last night when a suspect crashed his vehicle into a light pole and was taken into custody. Officers surrounded the car at gunpoint before arresting the driver without further resistance.

It started when the police tried to stop a car allegedly involved in current investigations. The driver refused to stop; instead, he fled and led them on a brief chase down the highway. The pursuit terminated at the moment when the suspect's vehicle collided with a light pole, making the vehicle inoperable in the middle of the roadway.

Quickly, police had the vehicle fully boxed in, and they were ordering the suspect to exit with guns drawn. After an apparently tense negotiation, the suspect left his car and was arrested; no one was injured.
Unlikely other similar incidents, they failed to create a wider perimeter to contain the situation. A group of officers opted for a very near field containment approach. Highway 55 is said to have experienced congestion temporarily during the arrest, while it was later resumed once activities returned to normal.
Authorities have not yet given any details on the suspect's identity or what the specific charges are. MNST will continue to update this story as more information is available.
