A wild scene unfolded Thursday evening outside of a police station: an SPD station where the driver of a white Dodge Charger Widebody - in name and reality - crashed into the building, sending the former to the hospital while landing a bystander behind bars.

The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. and immediately summoned first responders from both the SPD and the KCSO. According to witnesses, the Dodge departed from the road and hit the outside of the station, but what caused the crash is not yet known. Officers quickly secured a scene after the collision and checked that there was no immediate danger to the public.

Paramedics soon after treated the injured driver, said conscious and responsive. The driver has non-life-threatening injuries, according to medical personnel, who indicated that he is expected to recover. He was taken by emergency responders to the nearest hospital for further evaluation.

During the primary response, one bystander did approach the scene of the crash and failed to keep distance away from the scene as instructed by officers. According to a press release, officers were actively trying to secure a perimeter and tend to the injured driver when this bystander interfered with police. After several warnings, the suspect was arrested for obstruction.

The SPD hasn't identified anybody who was involved. No more information is provided about the condition of the driver and the possible motives for the collision.

As more information is available, it will be provided.
